So true I wish more parents took this approach when teaching their children, i think we would have a lot less dependent, low self-esteemed young adults. Its about giving your children direction with out squashing their independence and creativity. This idea lies somewhere in the middle between coddling or dictating and not paying attention. Or like the old saying goes “giving children just enough rope to nearly hang themselves” but watch and always love.

sorry its been so long….

Nursing school has been crazy, if I didnt want this so bad it would be so easy to just give up! I have one clinical instructor in general whom upon graduation I would love to punch in the face. And, seriously if one more obese nurse tells me I need to quit smoking to be a good influence on my patients I am going to scream, especially because I never smoke at the hospital or in my uniform so I dont smell like cigs during clinical.

anyways….. Abri is getting super big, she is talking like crazy now and people other than me can actually understand what she is saying. Today however at 18.5 months the terrible 2s have kicked in at hipper mode. She has decided since she woke up this morning that biting and kicking people and animals are fun…oh and naps are not. What happened to my sweet little angel, I thought they didnt turn into monsters till puberty????

Monsters vs. Aliens

  • President [Stephan Colbert]: Listen up, I'm not going to go down in history as the President who was in office when the world came to an end so somebody think of something & think of it fast.
  • Marine General: Mr. President, not only do I have an idea, but I have a plan. HOORAH!
  • I love this movie!!!

dad-isms:

Men feel like men when they are wanted by their wives.
It can’t be said any more plain than this.  There is nothing to read into.  It is what every man thinks and doesn’t say (to you)…and seems to be the very thing relationship books and therapists refuse to address while men everywhere talk about it as if the only way they can get this kind of attention is by playing musical mattress and avoiding marriage altogether

A must follow… this guy really knows what he is talking about!!!

dad-isms:

And one of the strange ironies in life you’ll find…is that really successful people (which may or may not have anything to do with how well off they are financially) embrace failure.  They don’t go into something with the idea that they will fail mind you, but they don’t fear it either.  I guess you could call them “calculated risk takers”, while the…shall we say…less successful?  Their goal is to avoid failure at all costs, but in order to do this, they, in the process, take almost no risks and wonder why nothing great ever comes from their efforts

Yikes! Recruiting duty almost every day of the week? That's nuts! I'd go a little crazy. Its rough having Tyler gone, but sometimes I feel like having him here and working every single day like that can be even harder at times!

It is pretty much like having him deployed but with extra laundry and dishes! The baby cries every morning when he leaves so we go through this crazy routine everyday. He usually gets home between 9 and 10 pm but can be out as late as midnight some nights (mostly because he is driving back from some crazy back woods town in the middle of know where to find out that a kid is unqualified for the Marines). It really sucks, but I do get the one luxury of knowing he is safe every night and I don’t take that for granted.
